Writing The Quartermastra has been a labor of love and a shot in the dark. For five years I’ve wrestled to bring this strange story to market, never knowing if it’d get to where I wanted it to be.

Now I’ve gone and self-published it, figuring it was a little too different to make it in a publishing market where a book needs to be like something else to get brought to print.

This means that I am operating without the normal apparatus for marketing a book, and don’t benefit from the economy of scale that comes with being part of the establishment.

And so here I am turning to my readers, hoping to grow a sense of community, and receive the support needed to continue making more wonderful stories like The Quartermastra.

Toward that end, I need your support. I want to build a community of creators and fans who support this world I’m creating (and possibly create a space for those creators to be honored for their efforts too).

If I’m going to do this, I need a little more help than traditional authors do, as I aim to sponsor a series of contests promoting both my book and the amazing creators out there. You can help make this happen by buying my book. But the margins are tight for an indie author (companies like Amazon exploit us more than those with a big publisher), so any additional support goes a long way.

So feel free to let family and friends know about my book, come here and vote on the submissions for contests and consider tossing a few more coins my way by becoming a paying patron of The Quartermastra.

I do offer a few perks to paying patrons: added voting rights (your vote on contests counts for more and you have a say in the preliminary voting), an increased chance to be acknowledged in the next book out and priority access to limited edition merchandise, as well as bonus stories I plan to release on the website.
